The Institute for Digital Medicine at the University Hospital Augsburg (UKA) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d) in a full-time position.

Digital technologies are essential to modern healthcare, but dependence on interconnected IT systems, data and digital workflows creates vulnerabilities that can affect care delivery and patient safety. The research group “Quantitative Resilience, Safety and Security in Medicine” at the Institute for Digital Medicine at University Hospital Augsburg develops quantitative models and decision support to help healthcare organizations anticipate, withstand and recover from digital disruptions.

You will develop semantically explainable synthetic clinical data that preserve clinical dependencies and process logic and use them to investigate the effects of digital disruptions on care delivery.

Your Responsibilities

  • Develop and evaluate methods for generating statistically plausible, clinically and semantically consistent synthetic healthcare data
  • Integrate synthetic data with clinical workflow models and simulations to analyse missing, delayed or manipulated information
  • Conduct independent research, develop reproducible software and publish results in international journals and conferences
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary research with clinical partners and the Chair of Data Management and Clinical Decision Support at the Institute for Digital Medicine
  • Contribute to research funding proposals, international collaborations and the development of teaching activities

Your Profile

  • PhD in computer science, medical informatics, data science, operations research, mathematics or a related quantitative discipline
  • Strong analytical skills and methodological expertise in machine learning, synthetic data generation, process modelling or simulation
  • Programming experience, preferably in Python; experience developing reproducible research software is desirable
  • Evidence of scientific publishing and the ability to conduct independent research; interdisciplinary project or funding proposal experience is desirable
  • Initiative, enthusiasm and the ability to collaborate with clinical and academic partners
  • Very good written and spoken English. German is desirable but not mandatory

What We Offer

  • An interdisciplinary research environment connecting quantitative methods, digital medicine and clinical practice
  • Close collaboration with clinical and research partners at University Hospital Augsburg and the University of Augsburg
  • Scope to develop an independent research profile and contribute to a growing research group
  • Opportunities to publish internationally, present research at conferences and contribute to scientific collaborations
  • Participation in the development of research software, clinical case studies and teaching in resilient digital medicine
  • Remuneration up to pay grade EG 13 TV-L, depending on qualifications and professional experience, including the standard social benefits provided in the public sector (occupational pension scheme and annual special payment)
